Raita

As the intense summer heat spreads across most of India, our bodies may have trouble adjusting to the new climatic circumstances. While they could temporarily relieve some of the heat, frozen foods and sugary drinks are detrimental to our long-term health.

Experts include naturally cooling foods as juicy fruits, hydrating vegetables, kokum, coconut water, barley water, watermelon, curd, and buttermilk. Summertime appetite loss is usual because of the extreme heat.

Which Raita is better, Lauki or Cucumber?

Raita

A popular summertime treat that can be quite refreshing is raita. However, not every curd mixture will provide the best benefits. A nutritionist and yoga instructor advises against consuming cucumber raita in the summer and in favor of lauki raita.

“In Ayurveda, it is generally advised to avoid combining curd (yogurt) and cucumber together as they can cause sinus congestion and produce mucus when combined.”

How to Include Raita in Your Diet Every Day

Here are some ideas for including raita in your regular diet

1. Refrain from Consuming Fried Foods

Fried food is not a good combination with curd. According to Ayurvedic principles, curd is considered sour and heavy, while fried foods are considered heavy and difficult to digest. When combined, they impede the digestive process.

2. Aim to avoid serving curd with refined sugar and salt.

These processed foods will damage the probiotics, or good bacteria, that are present in curd. Don’t eat curd when you’re on your period because it raises prostaglandins, which exacerbates pain and discomfort in women.

3. You should never mix fruits and curd together:

Curd is perceived as heavy and sour, while fruits are usually light and sweet. Combining these diametrically opposed qualities could upset the “agni,” or digestive fire, and lead to the production of ama, or toxins, in the body.

Which Way Is Best For Eating Curd?

  • Serve with rock sugar, black salt, or jaggery.
  • Eat with foods that are lower in fat or oil.
  • Consume with lunch or breakfast.

Conversely, the wholesome pairing of lauki and curd can aid in digestion and ward off constipation.
